Sunjya Schweig, MD

Sunjya Schweig "Western medical training teaches symptomatic diagnosis and disease management. However, in my experience, our conventional system does not adequately address many people’s needs. I have seen that true health blossoms most fully when the treatment plan incorporates an awareness of the physical, emotional, and spiritual bodies. Thus, I strive to combine an integrative medical approach with compassion and intuition to help each patient transition from illness and uncertainty to a safer, more relaxed, and healthier place."

A Bay Area native, Dr. Schweig was born and raised in Point Reyes and lived 6 years in India. He attended UC Berkeley, and did his undergraduate work in medical anthropology. He then spent a year in Ecuador working with both western physicians and indigenous healers. Sunjya was a leader in alternative medicine education and research at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree.

He was chosen to attend a National Institute of Health leadership training program in complementary and alternative medicine. After graduating from medical school with honors, Sunjya completed his Family Medicine residency at the UCSF Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency Program. He is now on faculty there, and leads an integrative medical consultation clinic.

Dr. Schweig offers a full spectrum of family medical care and is well qualified to treat patients of all ages with a wide variety of health challenges. His areas of expertise include integrating complementary and alternative medical care with caring conventional medicine: treating Lyme Disease, alternative approaches to allergy, functional medicine, holistic pediatrics, nutrition and healthy weight loss, and osteoporosis. In addition, he is skilled at working with people with stress, anxiety, insomnia, and depression using both the HeartMath® biofeedback system and amino acid therapy for neurotransmitter and hormonal balancing. Dr. Schweig welcomes people who are interested in exploring integrative treatment plans to heal from acute and chronic health conditions.

"As a doctor, I believe my primary duty is to simultaneously be knowledgeable and compassionate. I value the ability to be an ally and someone with whom to walk the healing path. My goal is to facilitate each person's innate healing capacity using all available treatment options, both conventional and alternative."

When he is not working, Sunjya enjoys cooking organic food, hiking, camping, and drumming. These times are made even sweeter with the company of his wife, Lia, and 2 children.
